Assembly Voting has provided the technical platform for conducting Denmark's first digital Citizens’ Assembly in the municipality of Albertslund. The digital Citizens’ Assembly is carried out in cooperation with Albertslund Municipality, We Do Democracy and Tal & Analyse.
Citizens’ Assembly in short
Citizens' Assembly is a new democratic format that has been implemented in a number of metropolitan cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Helsinki and Toronto. A random demographic representative sample of local citizens are invited to participate in a structured meeting process in order to provide concrete recommendations for developing the local community. All recommendations are handed over to the local decision makers to engage the local political process.
Citizens’ Assemblies provide local politicians with a qualified and broadly demographic rooted input for upcoming local policy decisions. Moreover, Citizens’ Assemblies is a significant contribution to a renewed political debate and participation in local democracy.
Online Citizens’ Assembly
In Assembly Voting, we have been engaged with democratic innovation for 20 years and we regard Citizens’ Assemblies as a promising democratic innovation of participation in local communities. Hence, we have decided to develop a technical platform (Online Citizens’ Assembly) to support the many technical requirements for functions, processes and participant validation contained in the concept of Citizens’ Assembly.
We are excited to see how the citizens of Albertslund Municipality welcome the Online Citizens’ Assembly and look forward to the future cooperation with We Do Democracy and Tal & Analyse to refine and expand the use of Citizens’ Assembly in communities around the world.
